Happy New Year everyone and welcome to a new year and a brand-new round of Play On! Sports Vouchers. 🎉
Round 2 opens tomorrow (Thursday 29 January).
As families start planning their activities for 2026, this round gives parents and caregivers who haven’t yet applied this financial year the chance to secure a voucher for their child.
Each child is eligible for one voucher per financial year, so children who received a voucher in Round 1 won’t be eligible this round. To be ready when vouchers go live tomorrow, we recommend setting up (or checking) your Enquire account ahead of time to save time on the day.
We’d also like to remind Play On! activity providers to stay on top of processing and redeeming vouchers. Prompt redemption helps clubs get paid faster and ensures the program can continue supporting more Queensland children to get active in the sports they love.
With the new year underway, it’s also a great time for sporting organisations to reset, reflect and plan ahead. If you’re building momentum for 2026, Sport HQ is here to help, with practical resources to support governance, planning and day-to-day operations — all designed to set clubs and organisations up for success.
There’s plenty to look forward to in 2026, and we’re excited for what the year ahead holds for sport across Queensland.
Warm regards,
Andrew Hopper
Director-General, Department of Sport, Racing and Olympic and Paralympic Games

A message from Don Harley, Manager of the Academy of Sport at TAFE Queensland.
As Queensland prepares to host the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Queensland Government has made a significant commitment to building capability across the sport and active recreation sector. One initiative supporting this legacy is the inclusion of the Certificate II in Sport Coaching (SIS20321) in the Career Ready program—a fully subsidised course available to eligible Year 11 and 12 students from Term 1, 2026.
I’m excited to share that from 2026, TAFE Queensland will be delivering the Academy of Sport – Netball Coaching Program from our South Bank campus. This specialist program will be led by former Queensland Firebird Amy Sommerville, who brings elite-level experience and a passion for developing future coaches and leaders in sport. Delivered through our TAFE at School model, the program allows students to attend campus one day per week (9:00am to 3:00pm), replacing an ordinary day/subject at school, while continuing their regular high school studies. Participants will gain practical skills in coaching, leadership, and athlete development—earning a nationally recognised qualification and valuable industry experience.
The benefit for students isn’t just gaining a fully subsidised, nationally recognised coaching qualification—it’s also a great way to earn QCE credits while still at school. And for those who continue into the Certificate III in their second year, there’s the added bonus of a guaranteed ATAR contribution to support university entry. For the Association, it’s an opportunity to build a pipeline of young, motivated coaches who are trained in consistent, sport-specific techniques and values. It also helps strengthen grassroots pathways, grow community connections, and boost participation by improving the quality of coaching at younger age groups.
We’d love your support in generating interest in this course—whether through circulating the promotional materials or by providing an opportunity for us to speak directly with relevant stakeholders. Given the program is fully funded, we’re really keen to see strong uptake and ensure the opportunity reaches the students who would benefit most.
More information can also be found on our website which can be accessed by clicking here.
WDNA will be hosting a Kedron-Wavell Cougars NET SET GO HOLIDAY CLINIC and registrations are now open!
This is fun, social and active program which gives kids, of all abilities, a positive introduction to netball and teaches them the basic skills. The program also provides techniques, tips and tricks for young
aspiring netballers. Most importantly, it’s heaps of fun and a great way to meet new friends.
The 90 minute clinic is aimed at girls and boys aged 8 to 10 years old.

A note from WDNA about the last 2 weeks:
The last
two rounds of May were rained out. We (WDNA) will be
removing all scores & player attendance from these rounds.
We (WDNA) are
still having some battles with Netball Connect, so there could be further
delays with some draws while Netball Connect fix the glitch.
In an
effort to understand our volunteer landscape, Netball Queensland are undertaking a short
volunteer survey (below).
Volunteer
Survey: Understanding Why People Volunteer in Netball
The intention is for all our community to complete – both current volunteers and those who are not volunteering.
Over the
coming weeks Netball Queensland will also be looking to get have these undertaken within your
community and they hope to have as many as possible completed by the end of
June. Any results from this survey process, Netball Queensland are happy to share with clubs and association.
To help Round 2 run as smoothly and safely as
possible, WDNA kindly asks for Club's support with a few important reminders:
* Sideline Policy – Please take a moment to review our Sideline Policy. This
has been in place for several years and is designed to protect the safety and
wellbeing of our umpires and players. We ask all parents and spectators to
follow this policy at all times. https://westsnetball.majestri.com.au/hosted/org/328/docs/e0f19cff/WDNA%20MAP%20(All%20Courts%201%20-%2024)%20A3.pdf
* Court Safety – For safety reasons, spectators (including siblings) are
not permitted on the playing courts. Unlike in other sports where umpires
officiate from within the playing area, netball umpires operate from outside
the court. Therefore, the 'field of play' in netball includes the area
surrounding the court.
* Coaches Boxes – Coaches are required to stay within their designated
boxes. Players in the box should remain standing so they can clearly see and
hear instructions.
Nominations are open for the Month of May.
Please use this link to nominate someone who you believe is deserving via this
link - https://www.westsnetball.org/2025-volunteer-of-the-month
Do you know a coach,
manager or coordinator who deserves recognition for their hard work and
passion?
We are excited to announce
our new Volunteer of the Month initiative. The program is designed to shine a
spotlight on the incredible volunteers who are the backbone of our netball
community. Each month, we will be recognising one outstanding volunteer who has
gone above and beyond.
Nominations open at the start
of each month, and anyone from WDNA can nominate a deserving individual.
Entries close at the end of the month, and the winner will be selected in the
first week of the following month. The
Volunteer of the Month will receive a $20 voucher to the WDNA canteen.
Criteria
1. Commitment - how dedicated they are to their
volunteer role.
2. Impact - the
difference they make in the lives of those around them.
3. Initiative and Innovation -
their ability to bring fresh ideas and solutions.
4. Collaboration - how
well they work with others in the WDNA community.

Few reminders for Saturday:

to score and have visible ladders. Non-competitive grades are welcome to
continue scoring to monitor game balance, but no ladders will be maintained for
